BRITNEY'S CONSERVARTORSHIP COMING TO AN END?

Britney Spears’ team has taken the first step toward ending the conservatorship, TMZ has learned … but it’s by no means a done deal.

Sources tells us lawyers and others connected with the case have been meeting … evaluating Britney’s progress with the goal of ending the conservatorship. As we first reported, Britney’s dad, Jamie Spears, wanted to wait until her tour ended before making the big move, but it’s something he wants for his daughter only when the time is right.

We know there have been several lengthy meetings recently between the lawyers and the court commissioner in the commissioner’s chambers.

Jamie and the lawyers will not make the decision to end the conservatorship. They will weigh in, but the person with all the influence is the “capacity expert” — a psychiatrist who was appointed by the court. The capacity expert will do a thorough evaluation and submit it to the commissioner.

We’re told one of the fears Jamie has … Sam Lutfi, a guy Jamie thinks is still a threat to Britney if she allows him back in her life. He’s got that right.

There are actually two conservatorships — one over Britney, the person, and the other over Britney’s business affairs. We’re told the business conservatorship will likely continue. The issue on the table is whether to end the conservatorship over Britney, the person. Again, no decisions have been made, but it’s all moving in that direction.

BRITNEY SPEARS GETS BMW FOR HER BIRTHDAY

Sounds like Britney Spears had herself a very happy birthday indeed!

The singer, who turned 28 on December 2nd, received a shiny new white BMW convertible with a ribbon on it and balloons inside during a party at her Calabasas home.

Birthday girl Britney was in good spirits, a source tell E! News. She was dressed sexily, in a blue velvet blazer, shorts and fishnet stockings.

She had a cake presented to her around 10 p.m., but there was no champagne toast, since no alcohol was served at the soiree, the insider tells us.

“It was really mellow,” says the source.

So who was on hand to help her celebrate?

BF Jason Trawick (who went shopping with her earlier), dad Jamie, her two boys, manager Larry Rudolph, as well as some backup dancers and friends.

If you didn’t get an invite, don’t feel bad. Less than 20 people attended.

No word on where her mom and sister were.

Meanwhile, her ex-hubby Kevin Federline was busy celebrating someone else’s special day: his girlfriend Victoria Prince’s.

BRITNEY SPEARS BIRTHDAY

Britney turned 28 on Wednesday in the company of boyfriend Jason Trawick.

A be-spectacled birthday girl and her bleached-blond man kicked things off with a shopping trip to Fred Segal.

She didn’t seem particularly festive on the outing, even as the paparazzi sang her “Happy Birthday” as she exited the store. Maybe Brit-Brit’s learned to hold back a little this year?

Although she seemed somber the singer paid homage to her Southern roots while partying Tuesday night…

Brit and Jason hit up Saddle Ranch Chop House, a Western-themed tourist haunt on the Sunset Strip complete with a mechanical bull.

Afterward, the twosome checked into the Mondrian Hotel across the street.

According to a source, she’s had a party at a private estate with her close family and friends. We’re guessing paps wasn’t invited!

MTV: BRITNEY "WILL NEVER RETURN" TO AUSTRALIA

Britney Spears has allegedly told insiders she can’t wait to leave Oz and never come back. A source close to the singer - who plays Sydney’s Acer Arena tonight (Nov 20), before heading off to Brisbane - told the Chicago Sun Times: “She is very happy to be getting out of that country.” And it seems Britters might never come back once she’s wrapped the final night of her ‘Circus’ tour.

A source said: “It’s been hard for her. She’s never been subjected to this level of criticism before. She hadn’t had an easy year of it before all this.” The singer has been enjoying the sights of Sydney, nevertheless, and yesterday (Nov 19) took a trip around the Harbor in a private boat. One mole told us: “She’s licking her wounds at the moment after all the negative press. She just wants to keep her head down and be gentle on herself. ”

Meanwhile, Brit’s fellow Yank Michael Buble, who’s also in Oz, has jumped to her defense saying the criticism is “nasty” and telling Aussie media to give the poor girl a break. Michael told Melbourne’s Herald Sun: “You’d think she killed someone. Okay, she lip-synchs her show.

People know that, they make the decision if they want to go and see her do that.
“Does she deserve the way she’s been completely bashed by the media here? No.” We agree, Buble. Oh Britterz, we understand why you might feel like giving the country and everyone in it the two-fingered salute, but millions of folk down here love you, sweetie. Honest. We’d hate to think we’d never see you again. Or that a couple of viper-tongued journos had won…
